YouTube live with Dimitrios Tzarouchis

Last Friday, December 18th, 2020, Dimitris and I did our first live on YouTube. We had discussed doing this so many times this year and a bit on a whim, we did it! As Caiman would say "a lo choro."

By any metric, it was a success. We had over 40 engaged listeners spending a whole 2.5 hours of their Friday night with us. At some point, we got more than 60 people simultaneously watching us making fools of ourselves. We had listeners from Brazil, Greece, US, France, Belgium, Germany, Uruguay, England... it was a truly international event. At the time of this writing, the recording has already been viewed over 400 times!

But for us, the most important metric of all is that Dimitris and I had an amazing time and from what we heard, so did many of our spectators. And to us, that is the only measure of success that matters.

To those who participated, I cannot thank you enough. Whether you realize it or not, you have given me (and I believe Dimitris as well) an incredible early Christmas gift and probably one of the best things that happened to us in this turbulent 2020.

You can watch the whole thing on Dimitris' channel or just check parts of it: I've posted links to each song in the comments so that you can skip the chatting and go directly to the music.

To our never forgotten grandmothers

One thing we did not remember to do during our live was say "Hello" to our grandmothers (giagias) that were watching us. They live in our hearts, always, but sometimes they slip our minds. To fix that, we dedicated this beautiful poem from Νίκος Καββαδίας (Nikos Kavvadias) put to music by Ξέμπαρκους (Xemparkous).

Ξέμπαρκοι/Ν. Καββαδίας - Yara Yara (cover)

So for our grandmothers, we say

Σκοτώνει, πες μου, ο χωρισμός; — ματώνει, δε σκοτώνει.
Diga-me, saudade mata? — fere, não mata.
Tell me, does loneliness kill? — it hurts, it doesn't kill.
